The CBI team, which arrived at Patna AIIMS on Wednesday afternoon, first detained Chandan Kumar, followed by Kumar Sanu and Rahul Kumar later in the day.

In a significant development in the NEET-UG paper leak case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday, July 17, detained four medical students from Patna AIIMS suspected of being involved in solving the leaked question papers. The investigation intensified with the detention of these students, whose identities have been revealed as Chandan Kumar, Rahul Kumar, Karan Jain, and Kumar Sanu. According to sources close to the investigation, three of the detained students belong to the 2021 batch, currently in their third year, while the fourth student is in the second year. Their accommodations have been searched, and authorities have seized their mobile phones and laptops for further examination.

The CBI team, which arrived at Patna AIIMS on Wednesday afternoon, first detained Chandan Kumar, followed by Kumar Sanu and Rahul Kumar later in the day. Karan Jain was also apprehended subsequently. Chandan Kumar hails from Siwan (Bihar), Kumar Sanu from Patna (Bihar), Rahul Kumar from Dhanbad (Jharkhand), and Karan Jain from Araria (Bihar).

The focus of the investigation is to ascertain the extent of their involvement in solving the leaked NEET question papers and to determine who orchestrated this illegal activity. Sources suggest that these students played a crucial role in solving the leaked papers, although the exact motive, apart from financial gain, remains under investigation.

He said that it was shocking for the institute to learn that its students were involved in such a thing. They await the CBI report, and if the students are found guilty, appropriate action will be taken against them. All these students are very bright, he further added.

Earlier, the CBI had arrested two individuals, Pankaj Kumar and Raju, who allegedly stole the question papers from a truck. The agency is currently interrogating them to determine how the information about the truck carrying the papers reached the fraudsters.
