Tom Glynn-Carney mentioned that his role entails spending a lot of time sitting around coated in gooey substances.
Sunday night’s episode of House of the Dragon substitutes heavy, meaty politics and manoeuvring for last week’s spectacular dragon combat. The episode featured the terrible deaths of Rhaenys and her dragon Meleys, as well as the serious injuries suffered by King Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) and his dragon Sunfyre. Major consequences from what occurred to Aegon during the war will also be felt in the future. It will lay the groundwork for a significantly different House of the Dragon season 2 second half than the first few episodes. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Glynn-Carney discussed Aegon’s dramatic change.
The actor describes his new prosthetic and makeup for the role as “really intense, but at the same time, it fully makes me feel like something horrendous has happened.”
“It really restricts. We spent a long time [on it], which I was very grateful for.”
Waldo Mason, a prosthetics designer, is credited by Glynn-Carney for having “exceptionally pulled out the stops with his design.”
Noting that it’s quite the endeavour for everyone involved, he also mentions Amanda Knight and Hannah Eccleston, who work on the hair and cosmetics team.
He went on to remark that it represents spending a lot of time in the chair and thinking about himself. Furthermore, he mentioned that it entails spending a lot of time sitting around coated in gooey substances.
He says, “I don’t know what the material is.”
He continued by saying he was free to work with others in a way that limited his mobility as much as possible.
He said that he had a spot on his neck where the skin was extremely tight, which made it difficult for him to move his head independently and compelled him to move as a single unit. This is common in people who have neck and face burns.
“It really helped influence the way that Aegon moves now.”
Following the events of Rook’s Rest, Corlys Velaryon laments Rhaenys’ passing on Driftmark. Aegon’s valour is demonstrated at King’s Landing by the procession of Meleys the Red Queen’s severed head through the streets, serving as a warning to any who betray him.
From the Red Keep, Aemond and Queen Alicent Hightower see the container that covertly holds Aegon’s body. Rhaenyra at Dragonstone is likewise weeping for Rhaenys, but she is apprehensive about the greens’ next move.
