AHMEDABAD: A brawl over hosting a better booze party has turned into a murderous rage by alcohol, leading to the shooting of the host.
The party where liquor was being consumed illegally took place on Friday night at Praveen Maniya’s farmhouse in Sargasan village of Gandhinagar.
According to Gandhinagar police, a person named Santosh Bharwad has suffered minor injuries. Police said Bharwad had tried to stop Maniya’s killer Jaideep Singh from escaping from the farmhouse. Police said that Jaideep Singh’s accomplice was Tarun Singh Jhala.
Maniya was a resident of Siddharaj Z Plus Society near Infocity in Gandhinagar. According to the police, eight friends had gathered at Maniya’s party. Gandhinagar Superintendent of Police Mayur Chavda said, “During the illegal liquor party, there was a dispute between Maniya and two of his friends over hosting a better party, after which Maniya was shot dead by a friend.” “Both have been identified. They are residents of Anand and Surendranagar.” Chavda said teams are on the lookout and both will be in police custody soon.
Inspector Dharmendra Chaudhary of Sector VII police station in Gandhinagar said that the deceased had a valid liquor permit. He said that the condition of Bharwad is stable. Choudhary said the liquor served at the party was procured from a permit shop and may have been procured from Maniya’s permit.
When the fight broke out, Jaideep Singh took out his revolver and shot Maniya in the chest, police said. The victim died on the spot. After this the shooter and Jhala managed to escape. Maniya was taken to a local hospital where she was declared brought dead.
Police said other friends have been taken into custody and their interrogation has revealed the story. At least four are set to be arrested under the Prohibition Act.
