Kolkata: The West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission (WBCERC) has asked Fleming Hospital to pay Rs 5 lakh to the family of a deceased whose family lodged a complaint against the hospital. The patient later died in another hospital.
In April this year, the Tangra resident was first taken to GD Hospital for various health issues, where he was given first aid. She was found to be Covid positive. The family took him to Fleming Hospital, saying that there was no bed.
The family alleged that he had developed a thrombosis in his arm where doctors had made an intravenous channel. They also complained that she had to be shifted to AMRI as she was not being looked after properly. By the time he was transferred, his hands had developed gangrene. Later the patient died.
“We have asked Fleming Hospital to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh within 10 days,” said health commission chairman Ashim Kumar Banerjee.
NS health panel Seven more cases were also disposed of on Friday. Some other hospitals were asked to either refund a part of the cost of treatment or give a discount to the complainants.
