Horrific! Man Goes Flying After Speeding Car Strikes Him, Tragic Video Surfaces

A heart-wrenching incident unfolded on a busy street in Chennai on Wednesday when a speeding car struck and fatally injured a pedestrian. The tragic event occurred near Kilpauk, a semi-residential locality in the city.

The incident was captured by a nearby CCTV camera, clearly showing the victim, identified as Palani, walking along the roadside just moments before he was struck by the oncoming car. Palani succumbed to his injuries instantly.

The vehicle, driven by Jayakumar, finally came to a halt after colliding with three other stationary vehicles. Following the accident, a case was filed against the car’s driver, leading to his subsequent arrest. The police are currently conducting further investigations into the case.

Fatal Accidents In Chennai

According to data from the GCTP (Greater Chennai Traffic Police), there has been a decline in fatal accidents and casualties over the past few years. From January 1 to June 20, 2021, there were 265 fatal accidents resulting in 269 casualties. In the same period in 2022, there were 238 accidents with 240 casualties, and in 2023, the number of fatalities decreased further to 214 accidents resulting in 216 casualties.

Kannan, Additional Commissioner of Traffic, has emphasized the importance of proactive measures to reduce accidents and improve road safety in Chennai. Field-level officers have been instructed to take various initiatives aimed at minimizing accidents, including the strategic placement of barricades fitted with blinkers on accident-prone sections of arterial roads. These initiatives have garnered positive feedback from motorists and other road users.

Additionally, traffic police personnel at the field level have been directed to strictly enforce traffic rules, particularly cracking down on individuals found driving or riding under the influence of alcohol. These measures have shown promising results in enhancing road safety and reducing accidents in the city.
