Patna: Five persons were allegedly killed after consuming spurious liquor at a party in Muzaffarpur district since Thursday night. The deceased have been identified as Avnish Kumar (32), Munna Singh (32), Dhiresh Kumar alias Gultu (40) and Avinash Kumar Ram (35) residents of Rupauli and Vipul Shahi (35) of neighboring Vishahar Patti village under Saraiya police station area. “He had drank alcohol at the house of a man named Dhiresh on Wednesday night at a party thrown by Amit after winning the panchayat elections. Dhiresh had arranged for pouches and bottles of liquor from different places. Muzaffarpur SSP Jayant Kant told TOI over phone on Friday that he was interested in performing muscle power in the village due to the land dispute.
He said Amit and three others have been arrested. “We do not have any reports whether more villagers are undergoing treatment or are ill after consuming the toxic poison,” he said.
Additional SHO of Saraiya police station Mohammad Kalamuddin said that Avneesh and Munna died on Thursday night, while the other three died on Friday morning. “Only Munna and Vipul could be taken to the hospital and they died during treatment. The rest three died in their respective homes,” he said.
Kalamuddin also said that all of them started complaining of nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and some other problems since Thursday morning.
This is the second toxic liquor tragedy in the state within six days. Four people died after allegedly consuming alcohol on Sunday night in two villages of Guthani police station area of ​​Siwan district. Altogether there have been at least four spurious liquor incidents in the state this month. One Ranjit Kumar Singh (55) died on October 12 in Baikunthpur village of Rajapakar police station area of ​​Vaishali, while Aman Kumar (25) fell ill after consuming spurious liquor. This month, one death due to spurious liquor was also reported in Naugachia of Bhagalpur.
