Home Sweet Home Alone: Actors Rob Delaney and Ellie Kemper say it’s still easy enough to lose kids

Parents forgetting their kids at home while on a flight to another country may seem like an impossible possibility, especially in a country like ours where we’re constantly under their watch, but this plot is a holiday cult classic. Works successfully for home alone. 31 years later, the sequels and spin-offs of the Chris Columbus-directed film keep us entertained. And the latest offering from this franchise is Dan Mazer’s Home Sweet Home Alone which released on Disney+ Hotstar on November 12.

However, in this reboot of the holiday classic, our robbers (played by Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney) are the really nice guys, unnecessarily tortured by the kid (Archie Yates). They had joined News18 for a candid chat ahead of the film’s release. Rob and Ellie, who play Jeff and Pam, respectively, talked to us about the Home Alone franchise’s trademark torture scenes, whether the plot is relevant in today’s day and age of technology, and whether they ever lost their children. Is.

Interview excerpts:

Do you think this kind of topic is relevant in today’s time when it is very easy to keep tabs on someone due to technology and social media?

Rob Delaney: Yes, because I have kids, and sometimes I lose them even though I have an iPhone. And I can lose my kids with relative ease. So I know from experience that, unfortunately, the story of this film is true. Granted, I’ve never gone too many timezones away from my kids (laughs) and lost track of them. But you know, I can lose. Plus, kids also don’t have the technology that adults always do.

Ellie, you’re a mom, and although parents tend to forget their kids, it may sound over the top, have you ever found yourself in a similar situation?

Ellie Kemper: In my real life I have never accidentally left my child anywhere. Whether this is a reflection on my A+ excellent parenting, I’m not sure. It could just be a lucky coincidence. But I’m sure we’ll lose them at some point, hopefully in safe conditions, and I’ll recover them quickly. But I agree. I think when there’s so much going on, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that you can forget a baby. Although I imagine getting on the plane without the child would be difficult. (laughs) Mom is terrible in this movie.

Your characters were tortured badly in the film. Which scene was the most difficult to shoot?

Rob: It may be hard to believe but the most challenging was to climb up a flight of stairs trying to get to Max. The movie may have two minutes of stairs but it took us the better part of a week to shoot because of all the stunts on the stairs (Ellie agrees) so I try to avoid the stairs for now.

Home Alone is a cult classic, so when you said yes to the reboot, were you worried or under pressure that it might compare to the original?

Ellie: Well, I guess it’s its own story. First of all, our characters in Robbers are really nice people. They are not there to terrorize an innocent boy and his house. We really want something back so that we can take care of our kids. So I guess it’s different. It is inspired by the idea of leaving a child home alone, but I think there is a lot of difference that the audience will love.

So, how do you think the audience, especially today’s kids, will connect with the entire plot?

Rob: There are two groups of kids: The Mercer (the kid left home alone) and the Mackenzie (the family of the robbers), and I think the kids will relate to both. They would be scared and sad if they thought they were going to lose their home, but they would also be happy and thrilled if they harassed those who entered their house. So my feeling is that this film will resonate deeply with all the kids all over the world.

Home Sweet Home Alone also features a cameo from Devin Rattray, alongside Aisling Bee, Kenan Thompson, Tim Simmons and Allie Maki, who reprises his role as an adult Buzz McCallister from Home Alone.
