The Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday announced that millets will be included in the dinner for personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
“After detailed discussions with all forces, it has been decided to include 30 per cent millets in the diet on the call of Union Home Minister Amit Shah,” the home ministry said in a statement.
Recognizing the growing importance of millets, the United Nations General Assembly designated 2023–2024 as the International Year of Millets.
The statement issued by the government said that the latest decision to include 30% millets in the diet has been taken on the call of the Union Home Minister and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah.
Millet is a good source of protein, gluten free, low in glycemic index (GI), rich in dietary fibre, micronutrients and phytochemicals including calcium, iron, phosphorus, etc., thereby enhancing the nutritional profile of a soldier’s diet it occurs.
Millets will be largely used in various functions and events of CAPFs and NDRF, and the forces will conduct training of cooks to prepare millet-based dishes through reputed institutes in this field.
