Home Minister Amit Shah meets PM Modi, discusses Kashmir situation and national security

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday ahead of the crucial cabinet meeting to be held today.

Amit Shah arrives at Prime Minister Modi’s residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg to discuss issues of national security as well as the steps taken by the situation in Jammu and Kashmir amid recent civilian killings in the state. The two leaders discussed the atmosphere of fear in the Valley which is forcing Kashmiri Pandits and non-locals to migrate from Kashmir.

Shah also chaired a six-hour long National Security Strategy Conference on Monday, during which internal security challenges and measures to deal with them were deliberated.

During the conference, Shah reviewed overall security matters across the country and police issues with DGPs, IGPs of all States and Union Territories.

Sources revealed that Kashmiri terrorists are carrying out attacks in an attempt to eliminate Hindus and Sikhs and are doing so in an attempt to recreate the situation that faced Kashmir in the 90s. Security agencies have been put on high alert to deal with any terrorist activity.

Home Minister Amit Shah reached the PM’s residence to inform about the situation in Kashmir and the steps to be taken before the cabinet meeting. It is believed that security agencies in Kashmir are conducting massive investigations and operations against the terrorists.

Since terrorist organizations are carrying out targeted killings of individuals and small groups, all security agencies have been directed to identify and nab terrorists at the ground level.

According to sources, Shah has directed the agencies to take action even on receiving small intelligence inputs. The closed-door conference was attended by Director General of Police, Inspector General of Police, Superintendent of Police and selected Inspector General level field officers, heads of central police forces, intelligence agencies and police organizations from all states.

According to a Home Ministry spokesperson, “The conference discussed ways to deal with various internal security challenges. Various law and order issues including the overall security situation in the country and recent incidents of civilian targeting were discussed in Kashmir as well. is discussed.” According to sources, the Home Minister also reviewed the current situation of Maoist militancy in various Naxal dominated states and also discussed the busting of terrorist modules across the country. The meeting was part of an exercise launched by the Home Minister to meet top police officers once in every six months.

In the latest incident of civilian killings in Jammu and Kashmir in recent weeks, two more non-local laborers were shot dead by terrorists and another injured in Kulgam district on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, terrorists shot dead two non-locals in Srinagar and Pulwama districts. Arvind Kumar Sah, a resident of Banka in Bihar, was shot dead by militants outside a park in Idgah, Srinagar. In another incident, terrorists fired upon Sagir Ahmed, a carpenter from Uttar Pradesh in Pulwama district and was seriously injured.

Earlier, seven civilians, including four from minority communities, were killed by terrorists in Kashmir, triggering fear among the people of the Valley.
