Holi 2022: Holi is one of the biggest festivals of Hinduism. Often referred to as the festival of colours, Holi is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor in different parts of the country. The two-day festival begins with Holika Dahan on the full moon day of the month of Falgun in the Hindu calendar. The next day people play with colors as part of the main celebration of the festival of Holi. The Covid-19 pandemic had severely affected Holi celebrations for the past two years. However, this time with the situation under control, the spirit of Holi celebrations is likely to come back.

Holi 2022: Date and Time
This year Holi will be celebrated on 18th March. The timings of the festival as per the full moon date will start from 1:29 pm on March 17 and end at 12:47 pm on March 18.
Holi: History
The origin of the festival Holi is from the Hindu mythology of the demon king Hiranya Kashyap, who wanted to be immortal and was worshiped by everyone. However, his own son, Prahlad worshiped Lord Vishnu. This enraged Hiranya Kashyap and asked his sister Holika to sit on the fire with Prahlad, who was immune to the fire.
As Holika sat with Prahlad, the fire could not harm Prahlad but consumed Holika. The deer Kashyap was then killed by Lord Vishnu.
Holi: Significance
Apart from signifying the victory of good over evil, Holi also marks the arrival of the spring harvest season and the end of winter in India.
There are different styles and forms of Holi across the country. In one of the most famous forms of Holi festival, Lathmar Holi in Barsana, Uttar Pradesh, women beat men with sticks. Men protect themselves from it with circular shields.
Lathmar Holi is played in areas like Vrindavan, Gokul, Mathura.
Another type of famous style of Holi celebration is Dhuleti which is played by men and young boys who break a pot of buttermilk to form a human pyramid, which is hung at a significant height from the ground. This form of festival is famous in Gujarat.
