Hizb commander killed in Kulgam encounter: Police – Kashmir Reader

8 terrorists killed in four encounters in a week in Kulgam

Anantnag: A district commander of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed in an encounter on Saturday in Kulgam district of South Kashmir, police said.
The slain terrorist has been identified as Mudasir Ahmed Wage, son of Mohammad Jamal, a resident of Malwan village in Kulgam district.
“He was a Category A+ terrorist and has been active in the area since 2018,” said a police officer, adding that the slain was now the district commander of Hizbul Mujahideen.
The encounter took place at Ashmuji village in Kulgam district today. A senior police officer in the area said that a search operation was launched after cordoning off the area after receiving information about the presence of terrorists.
“The spot where the terrorist was hiding was zeroed in and he was asked to surrender,” the officer said.
However, the hiding terrorist decided to open indiscriminate fire, the official said. “Retribution was fired and the terrorist was killed in the encounter,” he said.
Apart from some “derogatory” material, the terrorist’s body along with arms and ammunition has been recovered.
After medico-legal formalities, the body of the terrorist will be sent to North Kashmir for burial. Authorities in Kashmir have refused to hand over the bodies of terrorists to their families since April last year, citing the Kovid protocol.
The slain terrorists were buried in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district in the presence of some family members.
Meanwhile, mobile internet was snapped in Kulgam soon after the encounter broke out and it was yet to be restored.
This was the fourth encounter in Kulgam district in the last eight days. Eight terrorists have been killed in four encounters.
On November 12, two terrorists were killed in an encounter in Chansar village of the district, followed by five terrorists in two encounters in the district on November 17.
