Hindu Sena has put up posters and saffron flags near the main gate. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Nearly a week after clashes broke out in a hostel over serving non-vegetarian food during Ram Navami, in and around areas. It also warned of “strong action” if it is an “insult to saffron”.

Hindu Sena chief Vishnu Gupta said the posters reading “saffron (saffron) JNU” were put up by Surjit Singh Yadav, the national vice president of the right-wing organisation. In a video circulated on WhatsApp, Gupta is purportedly heard saying in Hindi, “Saffron is being insulted regularly on the JNU campus. We want to warn those who do this. Improve your ways. We Will not tolerate this.” We respect your ideology and every religion. Insulting saffron will not be tolerated and we can take strong steps.”

Two groups of students clashed at JNU’s Kaveri hostel on Sunday over serving non-vegetarian food in a mess on Ram Navami, police said, leaving six students injured in the violence. However, both the groups claimed that over 60 students from both the sides were injured.

The JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) alleged that Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad members prevented students from eating non-vegetarian food in the hostel mess and “created a violent atmosphere”. The right-wing ABVP, however, denied the allegation and claimed that “the leftists obstructed a puja program organized in the hostel on Ram Navami.
