Officials said the chief minister canceled his scheduled evening visit to send a helicopter to a remote area that does not have proper medical facilities.

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday airlifted a seriously ill patient from Killar, the headquarters of tribal Pangi sub-division in Chamba district, in his government helicopter and asked a hospital to treat him free of cost, officials said.

He said that the Chief Minister canceled his scheduled evening visit to send a helicopter to a remote area which does not have proper medical facilities.

A statement issued here said the patient has been shifted to Tanda Medical College and is undergoing treatment.

The statement did not give any other details about the patient or his illness.

Officials said that the Chief Minister has directed the hospital authorities to treat them free of cost and provide all assistance to them.

Sukhu said the government has plans to strengthen health facilities in remote areas and tribal areas of the state. He said that adequate number of doctors would be deployed in those areas so that people could get proper medical facilities.

In a video message, the patient’s brother Pritam Lal thanked the chief minister and termed him a “saviour” for the family.
