‘High-time Ravichandran Ashwin becomes regular in Test playing XI’

Ravichandran Ashwin declared player of the series India They registered their biggest Test win ever by runs after beating New Zealand by 372 runs in Mumbai on Monday morning. Ashwin took 14 wickets in the two Tests as India went on to win the series 1–0 after the first match in Kanpur ended in a draw.

Former India batsman Mohammad Kaif has said that the offspinner deserves to feature regularly in the team’s Test playing XI, whether playing at home or abroad.

“Another Man of the Series for India’s trusted match winner. Ashwin has become a regular in the Test playing XI. And I mean both at home and outside. Need to give confidence to spinners and Ashwin has done enough to deserve that belief,” Kaif tweeted on Monday.

Ashwin, who has now taken 300 Test wickets in India, often has to sit in the dressing room whenever the team is on a foreign tour. The most recent example of this was during the tour of England when they missed out on a single game in the five-match series, which ended prematurely after the last match was canceled due to Covid issues.

Ashwin’s incompetence in away conditions has been cited as the primary reason why he has not been picked in the eleven. However, at home, he has a remarkable record.

During the two-match series against New Zealand, he surpassed Harbhajan Singh to become India’s third-highest wicket-taker in Test history. In 81 Tests, the 35-year-old now has 427 wickets, including 30 five-wicket hauls.

He is now just eight wickets away from overtaking the great Kapil Dev as India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket.

Ashwin’s next target is to help India win the first Test series on South African soil. “I want to go to South Africa and win a series there, we haven’t done that before, and hopefully we can do that this time,” he said during the post-match presentation.
