High speed train derails in China, driver dies

A speeding bullet train derailed in China’s Guizhou province on Saturday, killing the driver and injuring at least seven passengers. Two coaches of the train derailed due to a landslide at Rongjiang station.

Bullet train D2809 traveling from China’s southwestern Guiyang province to the southern province of Guangzhou then derailed at the tunnel entrance of Rongjiang station in Guizhou.

According to a report in the Global Times, all the injured were sent to a local hospital, and another 136 passengers were transferred and excavated.

China Railways, after analyzing on-board data, reported that the driver noticed an abnormal rail track when the bullet train passed through the Yuezhai Tunnel, and quickly installed emergency braking measures in five seconds, leaving the train only 900 km away. Slides more than a meter.

Rongjiang Station is located in Rongjiang County of Guizhou and is a class III station managed by the Chengdu Bureau of China Railways. The construction of the station started in December 2013 and was put into test operation in August 2014. The station officially started service on December 26, 2014, the report said.
