Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Chirag Paswan has moved the Delhi High Court challenging Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s decision to recognize his uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras as the leader of the party in the House (LoP). .

Chirag tweeted that he has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against the preliminary decision of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, in which expelled MP Pashupati Paras ji from the party was considered the leader of the House.

Advocate Arvind Bajpai said that he has filed a petition on behalf of Chirag Paswan and Lok Janshakti Party challenging the decision of the president. He said that the review of the decision is pending with the Speaker and despite being reminded, no action has been taken after which he has approached the High Court. The lawyer said that the petition is still under investigation.

Paras, who was sworn in as a Union Cabinet Minister on Wednesday, spent most of his political career under the umbrella of his brother, the late Ram Vilas Paswan. The petition has sought quashing of the Speaker’s June 14 circular showing Paras’ name as the leader of Jan Lokshakti Party in Lok Sabha. It has also been requested to direct that a corrigendum be issued showing the name of Chirag Paswan as the leader of the party in the House.

The petition said, “Change of Leader in Lok Sabha is the prerogative of a particular party and in the present case, under Article 26 of the Constitution, the petitioner No. 2 (Party) is empowered that the Central Parliamentary Board shall decide whether the House or Who will be the leader, chief whip etc. in the assembly.’

Paras formerly headed the LJP’s Bihar unit and is currently the national president of its splinter faction. Paras started his political innings in 1978 as a Janata Party MLA from Alauli Assembly Constituency in his native district Khagaria. The seat was earlier represented by the late Ram Vilas Paswan.
