Helicopter Crash: Varun Singh Was A Real Fighter, Says His Father Bhopal News – Times of India

Bhopal: Group Captain Varun Singh, the only survivor Tamil Nadu helicopter crashbreathed his last at the Bengaluru Command Hospital on Wednesday.
Varun Singh’s father Colonel (Retd) KP Singh spoke to TOI on Thursday and said that he is very proud of his son.
“He was a real fighter and fought till his last breath. He was a good son, a good husband and a good father. His friends remember him as a true friend, best guide and coach.”
Talking about his son’s condition at the hospital, Singh said, “Varun’s recovery was all rumours. When he was brought to the hospital his condition was critical and his condition was stable, but he was in critical condition during treatment. Varun was conscious when he was taken to the hospital. Severe burning pain, patients are kept unconscious. Today is Vijay Diwas and it is a matter of pride for the entire nation.”
Talking about the circumstances which led to the incident or whether he suspected any possibility other than accident, Singh said that a Court of Inquiry is going on and top officials are looking into every aspect of it.
“Let’s wait for it to end and not speculate,” he said.
KP Singh remained calm during the conversation. He lost his son after watching him fight for life in the hospital for several days.
KP Singh and his wife live in the Inner Court Apartment on Bhopal’s Airport Road where Varun Singh’s body will be brought for the last rites on Friday.
Varun Singh’s brother Tanuj is in the Navy.
KP Singh and his wife Uma, who are retired from a school, were in Mumbai at the time of the incident and were taken to Bengaluru after hearing the news of the accident.
Varun Singh died at the IAF Command Hospital in Bengaluru on Wednesday, succumbing to serious wounds and burns in a Mi-17V5 helicopter crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu a week ago, in which CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others Military personnel also died.
An ace test pilot and winner of the Shaurya Chakra, Varun was an aspiring astronaut who applied for the Gaganyaan mission.
Varun Singh is survived by his wife and their son (11) and daughter (8).
