The health ministry on Tuesday announced the recall of 10 different types of Sabra hummus products produced by Osem food manufacturing giant after salmonella was identified in one of the production lines.
The directive was issued for different types and variations of Sabra Hummus products, which have a label expiration date of December 26, 2022.
Stores have been ordered to remove these products from their shelves and customers who have already bought them have been warned not to consume them.
The health ministry said in a statement that Osem identified salmonella in a routine test at one of its factories and believed that one of the raw materials was responsible for the contamination.
The recall on Tuesday comes less than a week after Osem competitor, the Strauss Group, announced that production had resumed at a chocolate factory that had been closed for months due to salmonella contamination.
Several elite chocolate products return to shelves after being notably absent since last week a massive recall in aprilthe company said.
These include chocolate bars and wafers as well as chocolate spreads.
The company said other previously recalled items, such as the popular Pesek Zeman, Tami and Twist chocolate bars, would be back on shelves within weeks.
Strauss said in his statement that the factory in the northern town of Nof Hagalil had resumed production “after making significant investments to ensure the quality and safety of the products”.
