Headmaster publicly insults UP student over school fees, returns home crying, dies

A 15-year-old girl died under suspicious circumstances on Thursday after she was publicly shamed by the school principal over delay in payment of fees in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district. The incident came to light when the family of the deceased student lodged a complaint with the Unnao Kotwali police station. The teenager was a resident of Adarsh Nagar Mohalla in Unnao police station area.

According to the victim’s parents, the girl was a class 10 student at Saraswati Vidya Mandir, AB Nagar. “She came home crying and suddenly collapsed. We took him to the district hospital but doctors failed to revive him,” the parents said.

The family alleges that the school administration was continuously pressurizing them to pay the outstanding fees. “Today our daughter went to the principal for fee concession. The school principal not only rejected her request but also publicly shamed her in front of other students,” said the victim’s uncle Ramesh Awasthi.

Awasthi further said that seeing her crying deeply, relatives tried to console her. “Before she collapsed she was only talking about how her school principal publicly shamed her in front of other students and school teachers. She fell on the floor while narrating her ordeal,” said Awasthi.

The girl’s parents have lodged a complaint against the Saraswati Vidya Mandir school administration and principal Satyendra Shukla at the Kotwali police station. On the basis of the complaint, the police registered an FIR and started investigation.

School principal Satyendra Shukla while talking to the media said, “The girl’s mother had paid Rs. 2000 on Wednesday. We never discuss the fees with the students, it is always done with the parents.” Her family members had earlier informed us that the girl had fainted earlier as well.”

“A case has been registered. We are probing the matter from every angle. We are waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death of the girl child.”
