Mumbai Indians’ young wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has said that he sometimes marvels at the cricketing prowess of former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, adding that he looks at the experienced player to hone his skills. Let’s try to “read often” the mind.
The 23-year-old was bought back by Mumbai Indians for Rs 15.25 crore during the mega auction, making him the costliest player of IPL 2022.

“More than keep up, I keep trying to figure out how his mind works. You won’t believe it… it put me in the most stress in an IPL match. I was playing well and hitting the bowlers. But then Dhoni bhai went to the bowler and said something. I couldn’t hear but he said something to Imran’s (Tahir) bhai,” Ishaan said while narrating an incident.
“And in my mind, I am wondering what Dhoni bhai has said to him. I don’t know what happened, but there was a half-volley ball, which I fired but was caught at short-third man. Ishaan said on the show ‘Breakfast with Champions’, I still do not understand how a batsman trying to drive a spinner is caught at third man.
The left-hander also recalled a valuable wicket-keeping tip given by Dhoni.
“So according to what we have seen, our hands are usually straight but when there is an edge, it moves to the right. But he (Dhoni) taught me that the arm movement should be like that. That’s all. There has to be movement. Not just the wrist. It should go like this (like a semi-pendulum). Once it becomes a habit, you will be able to hold rough edges as well,” Ishaan said.
