BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has revealed that Rahul Dravid was not the only legend to take over as India’s head coach.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has revealed that Rahul Dravid was not the only great batsman to be considered to succeed Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. Dravid took over as head coach on a full-time basis in November and his first assignment was in the home series against New Zealand.
In an interview, Ganguly talked about how VVS Laxman who was keen to take up the job of the national team, but ultimately could not make it work. “He was keen on a job for the national team, but it didn’t work out,” Ganguly said. Backstage with Boria.
Laxman eventually succeeds Dravid as the new director of the National Cricket Academy but Ganguly predicts that the great batsman will get a chance in the future. “But somewhere he will have a chance to coach the national team,” said the former India captain.
Earlier, Ganguly revealed how difficult it was for the BCCI to persuade Dravid to take over as the national head coach on a full-time basis. He coached the second-tier Indian team earlier this year when several first-choice players were on a tour to the UK.
Apart from this, Dravid has rich experience of coaching several India A and Under-19 teams.
“Rahul was on our mind for a long time, both me and Jai, but he did not agree as he was away from home. [and] Because the job of the national team is to [about being] Lives on the road for about 8-9 months in a year and has two young children,” Ganguly said.
Dravid tasted success against New Zealand as India took a clean sweep of the three-match T20I series before winning the two-match Test series 1-0. His next assignment will be a tour of South Africa later this month where the tourists will play three Tests and as many ODIs.
