  • What should I follow:

As the entire country went under lockdown in April 2020, Abhishek Sharma was working hard on his skills with none other than Yuvraj Singh. While there was a long hiatus in the training of Indian cricketers due to Covid-19, the former star batsman ensured that the players were not harmed by it. He helped him regain his fitness by training him in his personal gym, which helped him get ready for IPL 2020. Sharma was accompanied by Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh and Anmolpreet Singh.

“It completely changed the way I bat and think about myself because those practice sessions or rather, 3-4 months are my best memories ever and it completely changed me. I became more confident after that because we really worked on the skills and whatever I lacked and obviously he is a legend and when I started playing cricket he was my role model.

“So, it helped me a lot. He helped me in (increasing) my strength and cricketing skills, which I think has completely changed me,” Abhishek told ‘Cricktracker’ in an exclusive.

The 21-year-old’s journey full of ups and downs has been a long one. He still remembers what India Under-19 coach Rahul Dravid told him as he was working hard to lift the Youth Asia Cup in 2016. He eventually managed to bring glory to the team. “When I was leading the (under-19) team under him (Rahul Dravid), he would always tell me, ‘You should always play your natural game. There is nothing wrong with your batting style or bowling style. You just have to support yourself and be confident to be the best. So, I still remember those words and it inspires them even when I’m not doing well.”
