‘He has that talent’: Irfan Pathan names IND youngster who ‘should get the same support as Siraj’

The Rohit Sharma-Rahul Dravid duo has thoroughly tested India’s bench strength in the last three T20I series at home. These experiments were done to ease the team selection process for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in Australia. While several players were recalled, several youngsters made their international debuts and put on impressive performances.

Fast bowler Avesh Khan was one of those young talents who got a chance to represent India twice in the last two weeks. He made his final T20I debut against West Indies in Kolkata and played his next match against Sri Lanka in Dharamsala. He had a tough performance in his debut match, but he came back strongly in the next match, picking up a few wickets in his opening spell.

Avesh has been a key bowler in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and tried to replicate the same for his country. Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan believes that the Indore pacer should get enough support from his captain and head coach like Mohammad Siraj, who was successful at the international level as he had the confidence of former skipper Virat Kohli.

Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports, “Support is very important for every player because when you play in international cricket you have more bad days than good days.”

“When you have those bad days, it is important that your captain and team management support you. When we talk about Mohammad Siraj, Virat Kohli has supported him a lot. I would even go so far as to say that the confidence with which Siraj bowls in international cricket should be credited to Kohli. So yes, the players need that support. And I believe that Avesh Khan should get the same support as Siraj because he has that talent,” said Pathan.

Avesh will now return to the IPL for his new franchise Lucknow Super Giants. Before making his international debut, he bagged a contract worth Rs 10.75 crore, becoming the most expensive uncapped player in the mega auction last month.
