Mysore: The District Health Officer is going to vaccinate the remaining target population who are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Yet the health department employees are finding it difficult to trace the beneficiaries as they are leaving their homes after coming to know about the arrival of health workers. Recently, a video of a woman cursing health workers after being given the vaccine in the HD quota went viral. Sources said the taluk has 281 villages with a population of 2.4 lakh.
A senior official said: “We are trying our best to vaccinate the target group. Still, people are showing no interest. The only way out is to stop government services for those who haven’t vaccinated, Or we have to give them free rice if they take vaccines to increase coverage.”
“On Monday, I visited the HD quota during a meeting to increase vaccination coverage in the taluk and sought the cooperation of officials in various government agencies. According to the official, around 43,000 people are yet to receive the vaccine in the taluk. In about 17,000 periyapatna, 15,000 inches KR Nagar, 11,000 in Hunsur, 5,000 in Nanjangud and 7,000 in T Narasipura are pending vaccinations,” Dr Jayant said.
Recently a mobile van was introduced to provide the vaccine at home or work place. Dr Jayant said that on an average 2,000 jabs are being given.
District Health Officer Dr. KH Prasad Said that many people in the age group of 18-45 are due for their vaccines – both the first and second doses – as well as people aged 45-60 and over 60 years. As per our records, around 24 lakh identified beneficiaries above the age of 18 years are to be vaccinated in the district. Of the total, about 94 percent are partially vaccinated and 70 percent fully vaccinated.
