Jhansi: The Hockey Haryana won the Eleventh Hockey India Senior Women’s National Championship with a 1-0 win over Hockey Madhya Pradesh in the final day matches here on Saturday, while Punjab beat Maharashtra 2-1 to finish third.
Earlier, DM Jhansi Ravindra Kumar presided over the closing ceremony, while the chief guest Jhansi-Lalitpur MP Anurag Sharma lit the lamp in the presence of several other dignitaries. A colorful folk dance by the local students further glorified the occasion.
The ten-day hockey festival began on 21st at Major Dhyan Chand Astroturf Hockey Stadium and was inaugurated by UP Sports Minister Upendra Tiwari. 28 teams from across the country competed in a series of matches played in eight different pools.
According to the Regional Sports Officer, Suresh Bonkar, the event has inspired hundreds of sports enthusiasts and will be a boon for the future.
