AMBALA: The police in Ambala arrested four people after an incident of cross-firing between two groups in Ambala Cantonment area on Saturday.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Sumit, Gulshan, Raj Kumar and Pradeep, all of Ambala.
Ambala Cantonment SHO inspector Naresh Kumar received the information that some people opened fire and pelted stones in Khatik Mandi area, and he dispatched a police party to the spot.
Upon reaching, when a police party chased the suspects, one of them (Gulshan) opened fire at cops. Sources confirmed that police also opened retaliatory fires, and the suspects were nabbed near the Waqf Board office in Cantonment area. The police have recovered a pistol from Gulshan’s possession.
Two persons were injured as they suffered bullet injuries in the firing incident. They have been identified as Sumit and Raj Kumar, who were rushed to civil hospital, Ambala Cantonment.
The police said Sumit suffered bullet injury on his leg and Raj Kumar on his hand. Sumit was referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh for further treatment.
The police registered two separate cases of attempt to murder related to this incident.
In first case, on the complaint of Ambala Cantonment SHO inspector Naresh, a case was registered against four accused Sumit Kumar, Gulshan, Raj Kumar and Pradeep alias Buddu, under Section 34 (common intention), 186 (obstructing public servant from duty), 279 (rash driving), 307 (attempt to murder), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25 of Arms Act at Ambala Cantonment police station.
Sources told the family members of suspects reached the hospital upon getting the information and misbehaved with the on-duty policemen.
Ambala Cantonment DSP Ram Kumar said, “Two groups of Aman Bond and Aman Sonkar have old rivalry. Last night, the rival groups attacked each other and on receiving information, a police party also reached the spot. When the police were chasing the accused, an accused opened fire at police and in retaliation, the police also fired. During cross firing, two accused suffered bullet injuries and they are under treatment at hospital.”
SHO inspector Naresh said, “Gulshan and Pradeep were produced in the court, which granted their one-day police remand.”
Meanwhile, the second case was registered on the complaint of Sunil Kumar alias Biru, against 10 identified accused persons Padu, Vishal, Aman, Raman, Danny, Gulla, Gulshan, Vicky, Sumit and Raja, under Section 148 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 427 (causing mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25 of Arms Act at Ambala Cantonment police station on Sunday.
Sunil alleged that the suspects reached outside his house where they opened fires and pelted stones. The police said the investigation is being conducted in both the cases.
