IAS officer arrested: The Haryana Police on Monday arrested an IAS officer from Gurugram in a corruption case. According to officials, he was arrested in a joint operation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the Faridabad Police. The accused officer has been identified as Dharmendra Singh, who was posted as Resident Commissioner at Haryana Bhawan, Delhi.

Police said the officer has been accused of taking a bribe of Rs 1.10 crore from a contractor when he was the commissioner of Sonipat Municipal Corporation. Further, it is alleged that the accused had illegally inflated the amount of a tender from Rs 55 crore to Rs 87 crore for approval.

Case registered in Kotwali police station

Last year, a case was also registered in the Kotwali police station of Faridabad. On the complaint of Lalit Mittal, a resident of Ranjit Nagar, New Delhi, it was registered that Pankaj Garg, RB Sharma and JK Bhatia together took a bribe of Rs 1.11 crore in the name of getting him a government tender. Sonepat Municipal Corporation.

Police said the three men had told Mittal that the bribe amount had been distributed among higher officials. Later Mittal did not get any government contract and approached the police.

IAS officer will be produced in court today

Faridabad police spokesperson Sube Singh said, “IAS officer Dharmendra Singh has been arrested in a corruption case. He will be produced before a city court on Tuesday.”

During the investigation, it was revealed that Singh, an IAS officer, had committed irregularities in the construction of a building in Sonepat while he was the municipal commissioner. He said that he had increased the tender amount of 52 crores to 87 crores. Police said the accused was also posted in Faridabad during the coronavirus pandemic.
