Haryana Congress MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi suspended from all party posts for cross voting in Rajya Sabha

Haryana Congress MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi was on Saturday suspended from all party posts, including the post of a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee for cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha elections.

Haryana Congress sources had earlier said that action was sought against Bishnoi for cross-voting.

Congress candidate Ajay Maken failed to get his Rajya Sabha seat after Adampur MLA Bishnoi cross-voted, while the vote of an MLA was declared invalid.

The Congress suffered a major setback after the election of BJP’s Krishan Lal Panwar and saffron party-backed independent candidate Kartikeya Sharma for two Rajya Sabha seats from Haryana. Instead of voting for the party candidate Maken, Bishnoi cross-voted for media baron Kartikeya Sharma, who had entered the fray as an independent with the support of the BJP and its ally JJP.

In a cryptic tweet in Hindi on Saturday, Bishnoi said, I know how to crush the hood of a snake. I do not leave the forest for fear of snakes. Bishnoi is reportedly upset over being sidelined during the reforms of the party’s state unit.

Party sources had earlier said that Haryana Congress in-charge Vivek Bansal had sought action from the party leadership for cross-voting against Bishnoi.

Congress MLA and party’s authorized polling agent BB Batra had earlier said that the vote of a party MLA was declared invalid, while MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi cross-voted Sharma.

When reporters asked Maken his view on Bishnoi’s cross vote on Saturday, the senior Congress leader said only Bishnoi could tell what he had to do so. Maken said that he won the election on the Congress symbol and did not vote for the Congress candidate, adding that only Bishnoi can tell under what pressure or greed he cross voted. Maken said that the people of Haryana would not forgive Bishnoi for what he did.

When asked what action would be taken against Bishnoi for cross-voting, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the matter was for the party to decide. The Rajya Sabha results have come as a setback for Hooda, as the party recently replaced Kumari Selja as its state unit chief with his loyalist Uday Bhan.
