Haryana CM Khattar: Government officials will wear smartwatches to track attendance, movement during office hours

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday said that smartwatches would soon be made available to government officials to track the attendance and movement of government officials during office hours.

At a ‘Vikas’ rally at Sarmathala village in Haryana’s Sohna assembly constituency, Khattar said, “All government officials in the state will wear smartwatches that will track their movement during office hours as well as a device to mark attendance. Will work as Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said during a ‘Vikas’ rally in Sarmathala village of Sohna on Saturday.

Khattar also said that the GPS-enabled smartwatch will replace the biometric attendance system, which was discontinued due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In his speech, the chief minister said that the state government has decided to do away with the biometric system as it can potentially spread the virus. Earlier, government officials used to visit the office once a week and record their attendance for all working days.

Khattar said the state government had been alerted about the tampering of the biometric systems of the officials. This is why a smartwatch would be an effective tool as it would only track the person who wore it.

Khattar also talked about the development plans in Sohna region. He said that rail and road network is the key to the development of the region.

The CM said that five rail and road corridors are emerging from the Sohna region, which include KMP Expressway, Orbit Railway Corridor, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Western Dedicated Expressway, Gurugram-Alwar Highway. He said that industrial development in Sohna region would ensure employment opportunities.

“These networks will lead to all-round development and generate employment, which will increase opportunities as well as prosperity in the region,” he said.

Before addressing the rally, the Chief Minister unveiled a 23 feet tall statue of Veer Shiromani Maharana Pratap in the village. He also sanctioned an amount of Rs 125 crore for about 50 development projects in Sohna assembly constituency.
