Haryana Budget 2022: Government announces tablets for students, more medical colleges

The Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana on Tuesday presented a state budget of Rs 1.77 lakh crore for 2022-23 as against the budget of Rs 1.53 lakh crore in 2021-22. For the education sector, Rs 2,0250.57 crore has been allocated for 2022-23. Among other announcements, the government has proposed to start subject-wise Olympiads for classes 8 to 12. The highest ranked students will be sent on exposure trips to NASA and ISRO. Prizes in the form of scholarships will also be awarded to the winners of the Olympiads.

The budget session in the Haryana Legislative Assembly began on March 2 and will begin on March 22. Haryana Education Minister Kanwar Pal announced on March 7 that his government would provide free tablets to class 10 to 12 students across the state. These tablets will be made available to the students of class 10 to 12 in government schools.

In addition, safe and secure transport facilities for girl students (Saathi – Safe and Accessible Transport: Haryana Initiative) are to be notified from April 2022 onwards. Facilities will be provided to all girl students of government institutions including senior secondary schools, colleges, ITIs. Polytechnic, Medical, Paramedical and Nursing Institutes.

Announcing the budget, Khattar said that the four districts of the state which still do not have medical colleges will get one under this budget. He said: “I announce that the government will open medical colleges in Palwal, Charkhi Dadri, Panchkula and Fatehabad districts – four districts without medical colleges.”

CM Khattar said that there is a need to promote joint research in allopathy and AYUSH treatment for each area. “I look forward to setting up such Haryana Health Science Synthesis and Research Center in any one medical college in the state in 2022-23. The government will provide funds for the establishment of the centre. I hope that with time the difference between the two will merge into a holistic form that provides treatment to the ailments of the people,” he said in his budget speech.
