It was Pascal Struijk who jumped with a ‘tackle’ and was shown a red card for it in the 60th minute. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah was trying to overlap Elliott and he saw the whole thing. He immediately called the medical staff.

Elliot had to be taken off on a stretcher. Struijk came in as a replacement for the injured Diego Llorente in the 33rd minute. The 18-year-old was applauded as Liverpool supporters sang “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.

As for the game, by that time Liverpool were already comfortably ahead thanks to Mohamed Salah’s 100th Premier League goal and Fabinho’s 50th-minute strike. Sadio Mane scored in stoppage time to win 3-0.

However, Elliott’s defeat darkened Jurgen Klopp’s positive performance.

Elliott, who made his Premier League debut as a 16-year-old for Fulham, entered the Reds side with impressive early-season performances against Burnley and Chelsea.
