Evanna Lynch, who played Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter films, shared that she had forgotten about her role in the movies.
Harry Potter films and the iconic characters still remain fresh in fans’ minds to date. One of them was the eccentric Ravenclaw student and a close friend of Harry Potter and the group, Luna Lovegood. Known for her quirky personality, the role was efficiently played by Evanna Lynch. The actress recently opened up about her character, revealing that she almost forgot she was a part of the beloved wizarding world. Lynch, who made her debut in 2007 with the film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, opposite Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, also recalled her experience of working with the star-studded cast.
In a recent interview with CNET, Evanna spoke at length about her latest project, From the Wizarding Archive, an Audible-exclusive audiobook in collaboration with the Harry Potter universe. The actress has lent her voice as one of the narrators of the book. While conversing with the publication, Lynch opened up about her time on the sets of Harry Potter films and revealed how she was celebrated in the wizarding world.
Evanna, who played Luna in four films of the blockbuster series, also revealed that she had even forgotten that she was a part of it. The actress said, “I don’t watch the films as it’s too emotional, but recently, Prisoner of Azkaban was on, and my partner and I started passively watching it, and I had that strong feeling of, ‘I want to be part of that world,’ and then remembered, ‘Oh, I already am!’”
When asked why she has continued to be a part of the film franchise even after the last installment of the series was released over a decade ago, Evanna remarked, “It’s a safe place for me. Perhaps there is a slightly regressive instinct there, returning to my childhood comforts. But it goes deeper, too.”
Further, the actress explained that the feeling of belonging to a place has always been “elusive” to her, highlighting that she wasn’t just accepted into the wizarding world but also “embraced and celebrated.” Lynch acknowledged the “enormous privilege” and discussed that not every “quirky” kid finds the kind of community she has.
Evanna also mentioned how she tried to find that sense of belonging in other communities, but none matched. “The fans have kept that world very alive in my life. I continue to try to find that sense of belonging in other communities, but none have proved quite so profound a match yet. So yes, I’ll always be happy to be a familiar face in the Harry Potter world,” the actress added.
