This decision comes as the Indian contingent scrambles to secure top legal representation for the hearing, which has now been rescheduled to 10 AM local time tomorrow (1:30 PM IST).
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has requested additional time to appoint a lawyer for Vinesh Phogat’s appeal before CAS. Vinesh had appealed against her disqualification on two counts. The first was to let her weigh in again, which the court rejected, and the gold medal match went ahead as scheduled. The second appeal was to award her a silver medal because she had earned it with a proper weigh-in on Tuesday. The CAS has said that it will deliberate on this matter.

Vinesh, who was disqualified for being 100 grams overweight before her gold medal bout in the 50 kg wrestling category on August 7, faces a crucial legal battle. Although her appeal to have a second weigh-in was rejected, there is still hope as she seeks to have her disqualification overturned or at least secure a silver medal for her performance on Tuesday.
As per reports, four lawyers from Paris are currently representing Vinesh, but with the involvement of Harish Salve, the IOA is hopeful of a favorable outcome. However, the case’s resolution might not be immediate and could extend further. This follows Vinesh’s announcement of her retirement earlier on Thursday, citing a lack of strength to continue in the sport.
