Hari Deputy CM Chautala promises action against officer who told police to ‘break’ farmers’ heads

Chandigarh, Aug 29: Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Sunday rubbished the remarks of an IAS officer caught on camera to the police for breaking the heads of protesting farmers in Karnal and promised action against him. Karnal SDM Ayush Sinha, a 2018 batch IAS officer, was caught on camera asking the police to break the heads of farmers during the farmers’ protest.

Amid mounting opposition’s attack against the ML Khattar government over Saturday’s lathi-charge on farmers and his demand for strict action against the magistrate, Deputy CM and JJP leader Chautala promised action against Sinha. Meanwhile, Karnal Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav expressed regret over Sinha’s remarks saying that though the intention of the officer was to stop the protesters from breaking the barricades, some of the words used by him were not appropriate.

Being the head of Karnal district administration, I regret those words, he told reporters in Karnal. He is an honest officer. Some such words were used in the heat which should not have been used. However, he meant to tell the police that if the protesters broke the two barricades, they could reach the venue and vandalize, Yadav said.

Karnal Superintendent of Police Ganga Ram Punia said that two separate FIRs have been registered for pelting stones at police personnel, blocking of national highways and illegal assembly by protesters, in which 27 accused have been named, while Others are unknown. Deputy Commissioner Yadav said minimal force was used against the protesters who blocked the national highway, some even pelting stones at the police.

On Sunday, the United Kisan Morcha (SKM), various farmers’ organizations leading the farmers’ movement and opposition parties took the lead in the Karnal lathi charge incident. Addressing a Kisan Mahapanchayat in Haryana’s Nuh, attended by several senior SKM leaders, senior leader Yogendra Yadav said, the officer (Ayush Sinha) should be immediately dismissed from service.

Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said it was indecent for an IAS officer and asked whether the cane fee on farmers was pre-planned. This action shows the intention of the government which seems to have made up its mind to beat up the farmers, he said, seeking a probe by a sitting or retired High Court judge into the lathi-charge incident.

However, the IAS officer in question said that he has not seen the viral video and he will investigate and comment later. Referring to the Karnal incident, the Deputy CM said that he was saddened by the incidents, but questioned the ultimate motive of the farmer leaders.

I am saddened by the incidents, but I want to ask through the media where are those 40 leaders. What is their ultimate purpose? He asked. He insisted that “there is no insecurity or fear among farmers” over the Centre’s new agricultural laws, but that “some farmer leaders and middlemen were using their shoulders to fuel the movement”.

They want to weaken the agricultural economy of Haryana, they want to break its system. They want to put Haryana in trouble. Why is this movement not going to Punjab, Rajasthan or Uttar Pradesh? Why are the people of Haryana being instigated? He asked. Chautala said it would be clear in five months whether this prolonged agitation was due to the upcoming assembly elections in Punjab or not. .
