Hardik Pandya undergoing rehab, set to skip Vijay Hazare Trophy

In protest India All-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the Vijay Hazare Trophy (National One Day International) starting across the country from Wednesday as he undergoes an extensive rehabilitation program to regain his bowling fitness. “Baroda” Cricket Association (BCA) had sent an e-mail to Hardik to inquire about his availability for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has played very little for Baroda in the last three years. Although he replied in one line that he is currently doing rehab in Mumbai.

Asked what injury he has suffered at this point of time, the official said, “Even the BCA does not know. It is understood that he is trying to do some strength and conditioning modules for his back which is no longer in the best shape after surgery in 2019.”

Hardik’s elder brother Krunal had attended the Hazare East camp in Baroda for a week after being instructed by the state board that it is mandatory to attend the camp to be part of the final squad, the official said.

“BCA told Kunal that he cannot just take off during the tournament and he has to be a part of the camp. Then he came and trained with the team for a week.”

If Hardik does not play the domestic tournament, he will not be considered for a return to the Indian team for the white-ball tournament.

“The current national selection committee has told all the players that those who are not in the Indian team should go back and play domestic cricket – Hazare and Ranji Trophy,” the source said.

Junior Pandya is no longer keen to play Test cricket to prolong his career and will mainly focus on T20 and ODI matches and needs to start bowling regularly.

When he is doing his rehab in Mumbai, he will eventually have to go to the NCA and prove his fitness to the coaches there before being considered for national selection.

There was a time when Indian players used to get fitness certificates from the NCA but that culture was changed after the then Director of Cricket Rahul Dravid took over.

Dravid made it mandatory for every player to come to the NCA, appear for all necessary fitness tests in front of coaches, coaches and physios and only then was allowed to play the match.

One case was of Shreyas Iyer, who had to stay in the NCA for a week to get a green signal to play in the IPL.

India will play three ODIs in South Africa from January 19 and even if the squad is selected at a later date (allowing white-ball specialists to enter the bubble later), Pandya was not selected for not bowling. Will go

It is understood that the BCCI usually procures visas for players over 35 to 40 to facilitate them for overseas tours.

Venkatesh Iyer, who is touted as a possible future replacement for Pandya, could be picked for the ODIs to add variety and also has a sixth bowler option.
