Former India opener Virender Sehwag has said that if Hardik Pandya is not fit enough to bowl, he should be used as a genuine batsman by India in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Ever since Pandya underwent back surgery, he has not been bowling regularly. after remembering the initial steps of IPL, he finally found some form with the bat in the match Punjab Kings and unbeaten 40 took Mumbai Indians home.
Sehwag also said that Hardik is primarily a batsman who bowls a few overs and should be used accordingly, adding that the right-handed batsman can win matches single-handedly with the bat on his day. “Hardik Pandya alone can win you matches. He is the first batsman and bowling is just a bonus. Even if he is not fit to bowl, he can still win matches with the bat. I will always keep such a player in my team, Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
Echoing his sentiments, former India batsman Ajay Jadeja also said that Hardik should be seen as a batsman first and his batting is more than the impact he can make with the ball. Jadeja said that if Pandya had not been a destructive batsman, he would not have been featured for the Indian team or Mumbai Indians and his abilities with the bat are different.
Jadeja said that Hardik should always be sent up the order and not be wasted at number seven.
He said, ‘If a batsman has to go ahead, he has to be sent up the order. Now he has shown that he can do this while coming early. He has the skill to bat in the middle overs. Wonder why Mumbai Indians are not sending him orders,” Jadeja told Cricbuzz.
