Ricky Ponting continues to be amazed by the greatness of Jasprit Bumrah who once again played a pivotal role in India’s T20 World Cup victory.
One of cricket’s most successful captains, Ricky Ponting had some high praise for Indian pace star Jasprit Bumrah. Speaking to ICC after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, Ponting agreed that there might not be another bowler better than the Indian pacer presently.
Ponting thoroughly talked about Bumrah’s impact in the tournament’s final before concluding, “He’s a star. Has been for a long time and it’s pretty hard to argue that there’s anyone better than him in the world at the moment.” ICC have now shared a video of the Aussie ex-captain’s words on Instagram. The post’s caption read, “Jasprit Bumrah has earned high praise from Ricky Ponting.”
Ricky Ponting’s words on Jasprit Bumrah have attracted a flood of reactions on Instagram. One fan compared the Indian pacer to a Sri Lankan icon Lasith Malinga. “Actually peak Malinga wasn’t this good. Bumrah seems to be the best in a long time,” he said.
Another agreed and wrote, “I have been watching cricket since 1996, but a bowler like Bumrah is found once in a century.”
“Our Bumrah is the bowler who excels the most,” wrote one more.

Another wondered what it would be like to witness a prime Ricky Ponting face-off against the Indian pacer. “Imagine watching Ponting bat against Bumrah. I would’ve loved to see that. Ponting was an amazing batsman.”
One joked that it was surprising to see an Aussie ex-captain say such nice words about an Indian bowler. “Can’t digest Pnting appreciating an Indian so much,” he wrote.
In the same ICC interview, Ricky Ponting emphasized how Jasprit Bumrah had the skill to deliver in different situations. “He’s a new ball and old ball specialist, and there’s not too many of those around,” he said.
The multi-time World Cup winner then talked about how he was astonished at Bumrah’s numbers in the tournament. “I’m looking at his numbers today, I think he has gone just at just over four runs per over for this entire tournament and thoroughly deserved his Player of the Tournament award,” the Aussie said.
Ricky Ponting also talked about how Jasprit Bumrah changed the game for India in the final. “When the game was slipping away obviously as Rohit always does, he goes back to his main man and Bumrah comes on, takes the wicket. I think his last two overs just went for just went for about six runs or something…which is what his team needed exactly at that time,” Ponting added.
Jasprit Bumrah scalped two wickets in the T20 World Cup final 2024 to seal India’s second crown. He finished the tournament as the third-highest wicket-taker with 15 scalps.
