‘Happy to see…’: US lawmaker welcomes repeal of agricultural laws in India

New Delhi: US Congressman Andy Levin has welcomed the Centre’s move to repeal three agricultural laws in India. In his statement on Friday, Levine said, “It is heartening to see that after more than a year of protests, three agriculture bills will be repealed in India.”

The Congressman took to Twitter to welcome the move. ,Glad to see that after more than a year of protests, three agriculture bills will be repealed in India. It is proof that when workers stick together, they can beat corporate interests and achieve progress – in India and around the world,” Andy wrote in his tweet.

Andy is a member of the Democratic Party and the US Representative for Michigan’s 9th Congressional District.

During his address to the nation on the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Centre’s decision to repeal three agricultural laws.

In his address, Modi said, “I have come to inform you that we have decided to repeal three agricultural laws. In the upcoming session of Parliament beginning later this month, we will take the constitutional process of repeal three agricultural laws. will fulfill.” ,

Farmers are protesting at the borders of Delhi against three laws passed by Parliament on September 27 last year. These three laws were the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Agricultural Services Act, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

The farmers were also demanding the implementation of a new law to guarantee the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the farmers.
