Shah Rukh Khan’s journey in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been nothing short of phenomenal. The Tamil Nadu-born batsman, who celebrates his 29th birthday today, was picked up by the Punjab Kings ahead of the 2021 edition of the IPL. He was signed by the Punjab franchise for Rs 5.25 crore.
But it was not an easy task for Punjab to buy Shahrukh as they got into a bidding war with Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Eventually the Preity Zinta-owned franchise was successful in getting him into the team.

Shahrukh made his IPL debut in 2021 against Rajasthan Royals. In that match, the 27-year-old batsman failed to do anything significant as he could manage only six runs (not out) off four balls.
But it did not take him much time to announce his arrival as he played a brilliant innings against Chennai Super Kings in the very next match. Batting first, Punjab came under immense pressure, losing their first four wickets with just 19 runs.
But Shah Rukh’s blistering knock of 47 runs in just 36 balls helped Punjab reach the three-figure score. He also appeared to be the highest scorer for his side in the game. During his innings, the right-handed batsman hit 4 fours and 2 sixes.
Notably, this is still his highest score in the IPL. But their valiant effort eventually proved insufficient as Chennai chased down the target with 26 balls to spare.
Overall in that edition he scored 153 runs at an average of 21.85. In the 14th edition of the IPL, his strike rate has also been an impressive 134.21.
But Shahrukh was released by Punjab before the 2022 edition of IPL. In the mega auction for IPL 2022, the Punjab team once again picked the hard-hitting batsman for an amount of Rs 9 crore.
In the ongoing edition of IPL, he played eight matches and scored 117 runs at a strike rate of 108.33.
Overall, Shah Rukh has hit 13 fours and 19 sixes in IPL so far.
