Monali Thakur, hailing from a well-known Bengali musical family, was immersed in the world of music from a young age. Her father, Shakti Thakur, played a significant role in shaping her musical journey. Beginning her training in Indian classical music at an early stage, Monali developed a deep understanding of its intricacies. Following in her father’s footsteps, her sister Mehuli Thakur also ventured into the Bengali music industry.
Monali entered the Hindi music industry through her appearance on the singing reality show Indian Idol 2.
Although she didn’t win the competition, she quickly made her debut as a playback singer in Bollywood with the song Zara Zara Touch Me from the movie Race, which featured Katrina Kaif.
