Root’s most balanced performance in Tests came against Pakistan in Manchester in 2016. Root played a marathon knock of 254 as England posted a mammoth total of 589/8 in the first innings. He spent more than ten hours at the crease and faced 406 balls to make his highest score in Tests.
He scored an unbeaten 71 in the second innings and took a wicket as England beat Pakistan by 330 runs.
218 and 40 vs India in Chennai (2021)
Root was the batsman’s choice for England during their forgotten tour of India in February this year. England lost the four-match Test series 1-3, but Root impressed everyone with his batting. He scored 258 runs in the second Test (218 in the first innings and 40 in the second) as England beat India by 227 runs to register their singles victory in the series. He was also the Player of the Match in the Chennai Test.
226 vs New Zealand in Hamilton (2019)
Root played a brilliant innings of 226 runs in the second innings of the Hamilton Test against New Zealand and helped England draw the match. He spent more than 10.5 hours at the crease and New Zealand bowlers faced 441 balls. Root’s innings hit 22 fours and a six.
190 vs South Africa at Lord’s (2017)
Root’s best performance against South Africa in Tests came in 2017 when he breathed 190 runs at the iconic Lord’s Stadium in London. After the early departure of his openers, Root kept his side at 17/2 to bat at No. During the match, he made several small partnerships with his teammates and took England to a colossal total of 458 runs. England won the match by 211 runs.
180 and 2/9 vs Australia at Lord’s (2013)
Root has scored many memorable centuries at Lord’s Stadium. However, his most memorable innings at the venue came in the early stages of his career against England’s traditional rivals Australia. He scored 180 runs and picked up two wickets in the match as England registered an impressive 347-run win over Australia. Root played his innings in 338 balls with the help of 18 fours and two sixes.
