Hyderabad: Former MP V. Hanumantha Rao NS Congress Demanded on Saturday that the state government should procure the entire paddy produced by the farmers. Vaanakalam He sought to assure the farmers that the Congress would stand by them till the last grain of paddy was purchased at the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 1,960 per quintal.
Hanumantha Rao, accompanied by senior party leader Asif Pasha, district Congress president E Komarayya and city party chief B Rajesh, visited the paddy stock point of farmers. Palakurthi Village in Peddapalli district on Saturday.
As hundreds of quintals of paddy remained unavailable, he slept on a paddy heap as a mark of protest and refused to get up till the paddy procurement started by the authorities. Congress members raised slogans against the TRS and BJP governments, blaming both the parties for worrying farmers.
Hanumantha Rao said lakhs of tonnes of paddy was brought to the procurement centers by the farmers but the government was deliberately delaying its procurement. He said, “There are many heaps of paddy lying near the procurement center in Palakurthi village and it has not been procured for the last 23 days.
Later, local Tehsildar Sadanandam reached the spot and started procurement of paddy after which Hanumantha Rao and party leaders left.
