Hansal Mehta shares his thoughts on the box office collection report. The director urged the audience to stop judging a film on the basis of its box office collection.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta believes that the box office collection of a film is a private matter and should not be the focus for the audience. He also said that it is not fair to judge a film only on the basis of its box office numbers, as sometimes even bad films can do well financially. The filmmaker made the comment while replying to a Twitter user who pointed out the disparity between the box office figures reported by filmmakers and trade analysts. The user expressed that there is a possibility of inflated numbers being shared by the producers, and even trade analysts may be making mistakes in some cases.

Hansal tweeted, “Bottom line: The box office of a film is nobody’s business. It only affects the people involved in the film in various ways that are purely transactional and essentially personal. He added, “Stop judging films by BO (box office) numbers. Terrible films sometimes make a lot of money and good films make less money. Focus on your experience of the film as a viewer and not the collection of the film. The filmmaker said that audiences should focus on the experience and whether or not the film was “worth your ticket price”.

Many fans agree with Hansal’s comments. “I completely agree and I hope #Bollywood agrees to this and stops using its numbers as a marketing ploy to attract more viewers. A fan commented, Box office numbers should not be the deciding factor as it does not concern the audience.

Another user said, “Couldn’t agree more. That’s why I tend to trust the critic’s award more, even though I take it with a grain of salt. But have generally found them to be more valid, at least IMO.” “

Hansal Mehta is known for directing films like Shahid, Omerta, Aligarh and Faraaz, which recently released on Netflix. The action thriller film is based on the 2016 terrorist attacks at a cafe in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It marks the feature film debut of Shashi Kapoor’s grandson Jahaan. With Netflix’s new series Scoop, Hansal Mehta will once again return to the long form of storytelling. The film is being written by Mrunmayi Lagoo Vaikul, who is famous for co-writing Thappad and Mehta. The series is inspired by Jigna Vora’s autobiographical book Behind the Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison.
