‘Half of rural population in NK not covered by insurance’ | Hubballi News – Times of India

Dharwad: Security of life insurance is yet to reach more than 50% of the rural population, especially in north Karnataka region. So there is need to create awareness among people about the importance of insurance, said P Gopikrishna, chairman, Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB), here on Saturday.
Speaking after handing over checks of insurance claims under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) to six families whose breadwinners had died due to poor health, Gopikrishna said the Prime Minister has launched PMJJBY to provide social security benefits to people.
He said micro-insurance is a mechanism to protect poor people against multiple risks like accident, illness, death in family, and natural disasters.
He said KVGB has so far covered six lakh people under PMJJBY and nearly 13 lakh people under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). The facilities of social security schemes are available in 629 branches of the bank.
The chairman handed over cheques for Rs 2 lakh each to the families of Sidramayya Hattiholi (48), Nagappa Matti (50), Yallappa Jadhav (48), Sanjeev Dasanavar (45), Kavita Hiremath (38), and Yallappa Bogodi (48) ) of Galagi Hulakoppa village of Kalghatagi taluk.
