12 coaches of the Bikaner-Guwahati Express (15633) derailed in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. Five people have lost their lives in the accident. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that he is personally monitoring the situation and apprised PM Narendra Modi of the rescue operations.
An ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh has been announced for the next of kin of the dead, Rs 1 lakh for the seriously injured and Rs 25,000 for the simply injured.
