Gurugram’s Fortis Memorial Research Institute has started the trial run of Russian COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V for the general public. Many private hospitals in Delhi-NCR are yet to start administering the vaccine.

An official at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital said, “We are in the process of introducing Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine. We do not have clarity on the vaccine rollout dates and more clarity will come by this evening.”

The Center has fixed the price of Russian vaccine at Rs 1,145 per dose. For private COVID-19 vaccination centers (CVCs), the maximum price of Covisheeld has been fixed at Rs 780 per dose, while that of Covaxin at Rs 1,410 per dose.

Meanwhile, Madhukar Rainbow Children’s Hospital in Malviya Nagar also said that the hospital is yet to receive supplies of Sputnik V from Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Hyderabad. “There is a delay on the part of the suppliers. We are expecting to receive it soon,” a hospital official said.

The vaccine has been developed by Russia’s Gamleya National Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology and is being marketed globally by the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

Dr Reddy’s Laboratories has been importing shots from Russia. With time, the vaccine is also going to be manufactured in India. According to Gamleya and the RDIF, Sputnik V has demonstrated an efficacy rate of 92 percent.
