Gurugram: Three-storey building collapses, many feared trapped

Several people are feared trapped after a three-storey building collapsed in Haryana’s Gurugram district on Sunday evening. Officials said that the incident took place at around 7 pm near a godown located in Khawaspur area.

A team from the local police station, fire brigade and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reached the spot to conduct relief and rescue operations.

“We came to know that around 18 to 20 workers working in the godown lived in the building but only 3 to 4 were inside at the time of the incident and the rest were out for their work. The people living in the building are alive to clear the debris. For this three to four earth-mover machines are at work.” Manesar DCP Varun Singla told IANS.

No casualties have been reported so far and the cause of the building collapse is yet to be ascertained.

“The rescue operation is on. NDRF and fire brigade teams along with the local police station are on the spot to provide all possible help to the victims,” Singla said.

Fire department officials said that as a result of timely evacuation, casualties were avoided. “The building and its surroundings have been evacuated,” he said.

Meanwhile, locals said that the reason for the fall could be rain as it was raining in the area since morning.
