GURUGRAM: A 67-year-old former Army jawan, arrested for allegedly killing his daughter-in-law and three members of the tenant’s family, including a child, committed suicide by hanging himself with a towel on Sunday. Gurugram‘s Bhondsi Jail Police said Tuesday morning.
After committing the crime on August 25, Singh was kept in Bhondsi jail on August 27.
According to preliminary information, he was found dead in the washroom at 6.40 am. NS prison staff The police said that he could not be traced during his regular attendance.
Police said further proceedings have been initiated and a magistrate is conducting a judicial inquiry.
“The incident took place between 3 am and 4 am on Tuesday. No suicide note has been recovered so far. We are probing the matter.” Jagbir Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Bhondsi Police station, said.
On August 25, the former Army jawan surrendered before the police station with a knife in his hand after confessing to killing his daughter-in-law and three members of his tenant’s family, including his nine-year-old daughter.
However, in this incident the second daughter of the tenant, who was 6 years old, narrowly escaped.
The wife of the accused was also arrested for allegedly accompanying him while he had killed the four and was part of the conspiracy.
During investigation, the police had said that the accused had disclosed that he suspected that his daughter-in-law had an extramarital affair with his tenant, and committed the offence.
However, the tenant’s family rejected the story of illicit relations and alleged that they had a rent-related dispute with the accused.
The family of the accused’s daughter-in-law had also alleged that Singh and her son were eyeing a conspiracy in her name and killed her to grab her.
In connection with the incident, a case of murder and other relevant sections of the IPC has been registered against the accused and his wife on the complaint of the tenant’s family at Rajendra Park police station.
