Gurcharan Singh used to play the role of Roshan Singh Sodhi in TMKOC. However, he left the show in 2020.

When Gurucharan Singh returned home after his disappearance earlier this year, he met Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah maker Asit Kumarr Modi in Mumbai. Days after, CNN-News18 Showsha has exclusively learnt the details of their informal meet.

On Wednesday, a source close to the show’s production told us that Singh requested Modi to take him back to TMKOC when they met. Not only this, Gurucharan even asked the producer to oust Balwinder Singh Suri from the show, who plays the role of Roshan Singh Sodhi in the popular sitcom currently.

“When Gurucharan met Asit Modi recently in Mumbai, he asked him to remove Balwinder (Singh Suri) from the show. Gurucharan wanted to come back to TMKOC and so he insisted Asit to terminate Suri’s contract. But this is not how it works. Asit had no reason to remove Balwinder suddenly and so he clearly said a no to Gurucharan,” the source told us.

The insider also reacted to Gurucharan Singh’s allegation that he was replaced from the show in 2012 without any prior information. Contrary to Singh’s statements, the source claimed that the actor was given a four-month notice before he was asked to leave TMKOC. “Gurucharan has always been unprofessional. He left the show after a fight with the makers on the sets and was given fours months notice period,” the insider added.

Gurcharan Singh played the role of Roshan Singh Sodhi — a fun-loving man who is always in party mode and never shies away from expressing love for his wife. He was one of the popular characters on the show, and also a founding cast member. Gurcharan, however, left the show in 2012 only to return next year due to public demand. After his exit in 2020, he was replaced by actor Balwinder Singh Suri.

In April this year, Gurucharan made headlines after he was reported missing. However, he returned home after 26 days. Upon his return, Singh was interrogated by Delhi Police officials following which it was discovered that he had left home to be on a religious journey. Police officials had said that Gurucharan visited Gurudwaras in Amritsar and Ludhiana ever since he was reported “missing” but later realised that he should return home.
