Gujarat Titans’ Jason Roy confirms that he has pulled out of IPL 2022 to ‘spend some quality time’ with his family

England opener and Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2022 mega auction Jason Roy has confirmed that he has pulled out of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. The 31-year-old took to social media to announce his decision. On Monday it was reported that he had informed Gujarat Titans of his decision and cited “the challenge of staying in the tournament bubble for an extended period” as the reason for his withdrawal.

On Tuesday, he took to Twitter and Instagram, and wrote that he is stepping out to spend some “quality time” with his family.

“Hello everyone, especially the fans and team of Gujarat Titans. It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to withdraw from this year’s tournament. I would like to thank the management and captain Hardik (Pandya) for believing in me and choosing me for the auction.”

“However, it has added to what is going on in the world in the last 3 years and it has had an impact on me. I think it is fitting that I spend some quality time with my family. Also the next What turned out to be a very busy year with a few months spent working on myself and my game. I will follow each and every game of the Titans and support them to lift the trophy in the first year of the tournament.”

“Thank you all for your continued support and I hope you all can respect and appreciate my decision,” Roy said.

Gujarat Titans bought the English explosive batsman for his base price of Rs 2 crore in a steal deal at the IPL Mega Auction. According to reports, this Ahmedabad-based franchise has not finalized any replacement yet.

Roy was a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2021. Most recently, he played for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League and emerged as one of the top run-scorers in the tournament for the franchise despite playing only six games. In those six matches, Roy managed to score 303 runs at an average of 50.50 and a strike rate of 170.22. Roy scored two fifties and a century, but the Gladiators finished fifth in the six-team league.

Notably, this is not the first time that Jason Roy has pulled out of IPL, in 2020, Roy was picked by Delhi Capitals but he opted out citing personal reasons.

Roy had previously represented Gujarat Lions (2017), Delhi Daredevils (2018) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (2021). Roy has scored a total of 329 IPL runs in 13 matches at an average of 29.90 and a strike rate of 129.01.
